History

Founded in 1749 as a port for area planters, Alexandria, Virginia was laid out by a young surveyor name George Washington.  The marketsquare, where our the tour begins, is still in use as a public market every Saturday morning.

  1. What is a tour like?
    We offer 90 minute guided walking tours of Alexandria's historic district featuring history. legend and folklore. We meet at Market Square or Ramsey House Visitor's Center

    Stops include. Carlyle House, the history of the Torpedo Factory, Wise's Tavern, Duvall's Tavern and Gadsby's Tavern. Halfway through the tour we then sit in Market Square where I discuss Christ Church and the Civil War days.

    The second half of the tour includes a stroll down lower King St. towards the Potomac River where we learn about Merchant houses Flounder Houses and the residential area known as Captain's Row, a cobblestone street consisting of 18th century houses, complete with many different placques.

    We continue up to Gentry Row and then talk about the Old Presbyterian Meeting house and conclude our tour at the Old Apothecary Shop'


  2. How long does it take?
    Ninety minutes

  3. Do you do tours on buses?
    I am a step on guide. I get on buses that come already filled wih passengers and give a bus tour. I have no buses of my own.

  4. How many people can we have?
    I have assistant tour guides , so we can accomodate most tour groups.

  5. What if it rains?
    I usually do tours rain or shine! I know that while on vacation you have one day devoted to a certain destination, so I don't cancel unless it's pouring!
